Valentine's Disco

Primary 6s and 7s enjoyed a fantastic night at the Valentine's Disco last Thursday!  We had so much fun dancing together and we enjoyed the healthier tuck shop too.  The house captains did a tremendous job organising such a great night!!

Mrs Russell has now posted the photos from the night on Glow.  They are in the documents tab on the Primary 7 group page.... have a look, they're brilliant!

LCross Country 30th January at Oxgang

Well, the competition went ahead thank goodness and despite freezing
weather and icy conditions our runners did extrememly well.
In the P7 girls race Catriona Booth finished 3rd, Caitlin Trotter 7th
and Lauren Lyon 11th. This means that the girls win silver medals for
finishing in 2nd team place.
In the P7 boys race John Brechany finished in 13th position.
Unfortunately he was the only P7 boy running for the school so was
unable to be considered for a team position. Come on P7 boys! Come and
help John win a team position.
In the P5/6 girls race Nicola Brechany finished 2nd, Kirsty Donaldson
18th and Erin Halliday 19th. This means they finished a VERY creditable
5th team position out of 11 teams. They were only 4 points short of
winning silver. Next time girls! Courtney Trotter, Hannah Linden,
Rebecca Munro and Jennifer Wilson also ran well on the day, especially
as for some of the girls it was their first competition.
In the P5/6boys race David Johnston finished 19th, Jamie Brennan 26th,
and with Murray McKay our 3rd boy to finish 30secs ahead of Fergus
Hempel, this meant that the boys team position was a worthy 7th out of
the 14 that took part. Well done everyone and keep up the good work for
the next race on Saturday 27th February at Mugdock - 10am start.

Happy 2010 Everyone! We're BAAAACK!

We have been up to lots since we came back to school and we are only a couple of weeks into 2010!

On the first day of term we had an afternoon workshop which helped us to become deaf-aware.  We all got a chance to use finger spelling and we played some games which were to try and give us the opportunity to see what it would be like not to hear so well.  Check out the photos of some of the letters we were able to finger spell.

We have now moved seats and we are trying to work really hard because we only have 6 months left of primary 7.  It is quite scary to think of it like that really!  Mrs Russell was at Bearsden Academy this week helping to organise our transition glow group for us getting info for moving into S1.  It'll be here before we know it!

M and M Productions came and performed Beauty and the Beast for us.  It was nice to see the performance and it was quite funny.  The infants really enjoyed it the most however!

Our Rainforest topic is up and running and we are looking forward to transforming our class into a rainforest of our own.  So far we have made the forest floor and put up lots of green paper to set the scene... next week all the 'making' of things begins!  So far we have found out about where rainforests are in the world, why they are found where they are and what the climate is like.  We know all about the rainforest strata and water / nutrient cycles too.  Soon Zoolab will be visiting us with their rainforest creatures so we are really looking forward to that!!

Mrs Russell is very proud of us for the standard of our homework at the moment.  We have been researching current news and writing our own reports each week then submitting them by glow mail to her.  Mrs Russell then reads them all and gives us feedback.  It is better doing this kind of homework this way - we feel much more independent!!

At the moment we are all very busy learning our Burns poetry and creating some fantastic pieces of Burns art ready for our Scottish afternoon.  We are learning To a Louse and some people have even managed to learn all 6 verses already!

We have been using the snow outside as our inspiration for creating some very cool snowboarders on our class windows.  We designed our own boards and made silhouettes of boarders pulling some funky moves!  Photos to follow once everyone is on the slopes!!!

Bu-bye for now!! :)
